2021.10.19 10:32 LegenPAUSEdary Any reason to use picom?
I’ve replaced kwin with bspwm, works great. I’m just wondering about the need for a compositor. I don’t care about transparency effects. Does it help with screen tearing? I tried picom before, but it didn’t help with screen tearing (the only application I have screen tearing in is the Dolphin file manager). Thanks

2021.10.19 10:32 AdPale7925 (Question) Would using an intervalometer cause noticeable cuts in long-form video content?
I am looking at options for filming long-form content on my Fujifilm XT4 that will require bypassing the recording limit. Considering save to card times, would an intervalometer be the wrong way to go in filming long-form videos that don't have (or appear not to) cuts? If you have any other suggestions such as external recorders or captures cards, could you please share your opinions? 4K video is nice but not a necessity and I would be happy to shoot at 1080/60. I'd greatly appreciate anyone who has tackled this subject to share their experiences. Thanks!!

2021.10.19 10:32 toschi23 Flat ortholinear Keyboard (Logitech MX style)
Hi, I am a big fan of the Ortholinear Keyboard layout and currently type on a X Bows Nature. I do however find that my typingspeed is still around 25% Faster on a Laptop keyboard. (130 Words per Minute vs 105 words/Minute) I believe this is mostly because of the flatter nature of the laptop keyboard, that can also be found an keyboards such as logitech mx and many others. Are there any ortholinear alternatives to these keyboards? So far I only find Mechanical Keyboards, with far travel. (Which I know many of you find desirable)

2021.10.19 10:32 Warm-Highlight-797 Just lost my Grandfather
I've never posted anything on here. I mostly use this platform to research how to fix things or what tech gadget to buy. But tonight, I'm in a puddle of my own tears and I'm having a hard time understanding why and I don't know where else to turn, so I'm going to just get my thoughts out there and hopefully this will bring me some comfort.
I lost my grandfather, who was 94 years old, to complications related to COVID 24.5 hours ago and I'm struggling more than I ever thought I would. I lost two other grandparents a few years ago, and I miss them terribly, but for some reason this one has hit me harder than the others. Perhaps because I was a younger man then and more self-involved than I am now. Perhaps because they had a myriad of health issues and I saw their deaths coming sooner. I'm feeling an incredible amount of guilt about my inconsistency, but I can't dwell on that right now. Regardless, I've been in a fog for the last day and can't kick myself out of it. I was in Asia on a business trip when I heard that both of my 90+ year old grandparents had tested positive for COVID and that my grandmother was doing well, but my grandfather had been taken to the hospital and was on a respirator. His vitals were looking good and I was told not to worry. Then things took a turn and he was transferred to the ICU. I was told my dad would be allowed to visit him, and that he was taking a bottle of scotch, which was approved by the hospital staff. I knew it was close to the end when I heard that, but I was relieved to hear that my dad would be able to spend some time with his father in his final hours. Long story somewhat shorter, my father put a dab of scotch on his father's tongue but he was unresponsive and he passed away a few hours later.
He was a giant of a man, though average in stature. He grew up in the low-income Polish area of Milwaukee, worked his tail off, went to engineering school (MSOE), built a business, raised a wonderful family, and retired comfortably after many years of hard work and determination. He was more proud of and supportive of me than I deserved, and always had time for me. I'm crushed by the fact that I'll never get another chance to shake his hand or share a late night scotch with him in his kitchen while he tells me stories of his childhood and life as a young engineer trying to make it work for his family. He was quite a guy, and I don't think I'll ever live up to his legacy. I will miss his guidance, his stories, his warm smile, and his sense of humor greatly.
This may be the wrong place to go about my grieving, but it's 1:26am and I've been going through waves of tears and emotions all day. Even if nobody responds to this, it's been helpful just to get my thoughts out there. Thanks to whomever started this page for providing me a place to write this.

2021.10.19 10:32 SamTheSnowman The reincarnation of the bloody sock.
Just a fun tale to pass the time between games.
As many of you know, the greatest ALCS of all time in 2004 is noted by many immortal imagines—one of these is Curt Schilling’s bloody sock, thus making said sock fit the team.
Lately, I’ve started going on long runs that coincide with game days. Typically, they end right before the game. Yes, there’s now a little bit of baseball superstition in there.
Anyway, the run lasted just under 90 minutes. As I’m cooling down, I turn on the game and the Sox score six runs. Just as Vazquez had hit a walk-off two Sundays ago as I finished a run.
I got home and continued to watch the Sox make the Astros pitchers scream uncle. Finally get around to taking off my shoes and socks to find a red spot on the bottom of my right sock. Turns out that one of my toenails had barely sliced my middle toe.
So, yeah, I had my own bloody sock to celebrate a Red Sox ALCS victory. Hoping it leads to the same results as the bloody sock of 18 years ago.

How hard is it to get into the pure math BA program for dep. of Math at UW? I know BS is super competitive and a lot of people are rejected, but I haven’t heard about BA. I barely stand a chance to get in because I bombed my Math 126 course (2.7 GPA), overall math GPA is a 3.0. I have no hope for BS but hopefully BA will have a spot because I want to be a math teacher. I have taken 124, 125, 126, 307, and I am taking 208/308. Applying this winter. Please advise 🤕 Go dawgs 🤷🏻♀️

2021.10.19 10:32 theSlugfest Question regarding my SFN.
Hello am Male, 28 and Indian. Ok right off the bat all of you will hate me because I was diagnosed with peripheral neuropathy back in 2018 after heavy drinking. After medication the burning hands went away but tingling in the feet remained till now. And I did not go to a neurologist at all because I was trying to get diagnosed with diabetes which I felt was the result for it happening in the first place. I have also had deficiences after gastritis back in 2014. Anyway last month my muscles started feeling really weak and I got scared so did a full blood work and vitamin d3 was 6 ng/ml, high cholesterol both hdl and ldl. Also hba1c levels were 5.6. Started taking vitamin injections and felt good for some 10-12 days even started going on walks in the morning and eating healthy. But muscles started weakening again along with lot of sweating and general tiredness this time I finally went to a neurologist and he did a NCV test after which he said my main nerves are ok but there is an issue with small fiber. He has given me medication for that. Again I was ok for 10 days and now again I am feeling really week, muscles extremely weak and trembling, cold feet, sweating a lot, also was shivering at night and having cold sweats. Ok so what I want to ask if why is this flare up coming and going all of a sudden. Like ok for several days and then next several days not ok. Also I am not even sure if its d3 that is causing muscle weakness and fatigue because I have taken two injections by now. I fear it is my SFN and its going to progress and leave me in pain and disability. Should have gotten it remedied earlier. But anyway anyone ever experienced several good days and then next few days are bad.

2021.10.19 10:31 H25H The Russian revolution and the red scare in USA. (email exchange)
>"The threat that Russia could prove to be a “virus” was very real, Woodrow Wilson and Lloyd George recognized, not only in the colonial world but even in the rich industrial societies." >Did the russian revolution inspire actions in rich industrial societies like the USA. If so then what was it exactly.
>Enormous reactions. One was Wilson’s Red Scare, the worst repression in US history, with enormous effects, still felt. Another was invasion of Russia. And plenty more
>Were they reacting to an increase in radical politics in the USA or did they just start repressing the already-there movements?
From 'Consequences of Capitalism'submitted by H25H to chomsky [link] [comments]
A century after the czar and Metternich warned about the domino effect of republicanism, American leaders were expressing similar fears about Russia. Woodrow Wilson’s secretary of state Robert Lansing warned that if the Bolshevik disease were to spread, it would leave the “ignorant and incapable mass of humanity dominant in the earth.” The Bolsheviks were appealing “to the proletariat of all countries, to the ignorant and mentally deficient, who by their numbers are urged to become masters, . . . a very real danger in view of the process of social unrest throughout the world.” President Wilson thought that it might already be happening. A notorious racist, he was concerned that the establishment of soldiers and workers councils in Germany would inspire dangerous thoughts among “the American negro [soldiers] returning from abroad.” Already, he had heard, negro laundresses were demanding more than the going wage, saying that “money is as much mine as it is yours.” Among other disasters, Wilson feared that businessmen might have to adjust to having workers on their boards of directors if the Bolshevik virus were not exterminated. (Gardner, 1987).
2021.10.19 10:31 CFisntme I told him how I felt, and he said he feels the same
Don’t get me wrong, I’m ecstatic. This has never happened to me before. But I was so convinced he was gonna tell me that he didn’t feel the same, so I didn’t even account for this. I’m not even sure if I want to start dating. I’m 15F, but the whole dating concept is so terrifying
